Cathay Pacific to Launch Direct Hong Kong — Almaty Flights in Early 2027

Hong Kong’s flag carrier has announced its first-ever route to Central Asia: starting in the first quarter of 2027, direct service will connect Hong Kong and Almaty with three weekly flights on a wide-body Airbus A330-300.

The announcement came on June 2 during a visit to Kazakhstan by a Hong Kong delegation led by Chief Executive John Lee. It will be the only direct flight between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan: today, business travelers connect through Urumqi, Beijing, or Istanbul, losing four to eight hours en route. According to Cathay Pacific, Kazakhstan is Hong Kong’s largest trading partner in the region, and business demand was the key argument for opening the route.

1. Direct access to the Hong Kong hub opens up short connections across Cathay’s entire Asia-Pacific network — Japan, Southeast Asia, Australia — on a single ticket with a single carrier, which simplifies claims handling when disruptions occur.

3. The wide-body A330-300 offers a full business class with lie-flat seats — a rarity on flights out of Almaty.
