QazETA: Kazakhstan's electronic travel authorization is still optional, but it pays to prepare early

Kazakhstan is testing advance registration for foreign nationals entering the country without a visa. The pilot is currently free and voluntary, and the authorities have not announced when it will become mandatory.

What is known

The Ministry of Internal Affairs published the draft rules on July 31, 2026. According to inbusiness.kz, an authorization will remain valid for 180 days. Travelers are advised to apply at least 72 hours before their trip and provide the purpose of travel, document details, and information about the host. Media reports say a preliminary decision can arrive within minutes. Applications can be submitted through the QazETA app.

What remains undecided

The fee has not been approved, and the final list of countries has not been determined. In early September, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said mandatory registration had not yet been introduced and that travelers could enter without QazETA. Foreign media, citing Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported tentative dates: November 1 for air passengers, November 15 and 30 for land borders, and December 15 for rail and sea ports. Kazakhstan has not confirmed these dates, so treat them as guidance rather than established fact.

What this means for travel managers

If you host foreign guests, auditors, contractors, or partner delegations, add “QazETA status on the departure date” to your checklist. Do not treat 72 hours as a comfortable lead time: send invitations well in advance. Collect the host’s details ahead of time, including the organization name, contact person, and address. For group arrivals, decide who will submit the applications—the visitors or the host company. Do not present fees or launch dates as final until they appear in official regulations.
