Air Astana Launches Direct Astana–Guangzhou Flights: What It Means for Corporate Travel to China

Starting June 2, Air Astana operates direct flights between Astana and Guangzhou — twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Flight time is around 6 hours 45 minutes non-stop.

Guangzhou is a strictly business destination: southern China’s largest hub for manufacturing, exports and international trade shows, and home to the Canton Fair. Until now, corporate travelers reached it with a connection — via Urumqi, Istanbul or the Gulf hubs — losing 4 to 10 hours on layovers. The direct flight removes that leg entirely.

With the Guangzhou launch, the Air Astana group (together with FlyArystan) now operates 51 weekly flights between Kazakhstan and China — an all-time high in connectivity between the two countries.

What this means for travel managers. A direct flight saves a full day of the business trip and eliminates the risk of a missed connection. But with only two departures a week for now, trips have to be planned tightly around the Tuesday–Thursday schedule and booked well in advance: on peak dates (Canton Fair season, spring and autumn) seats sell out quickly and fares climb. If an employee needs flexibility on dates, keep a connecting option as a backup.

Check whether the new flight is included in your travel policy and your booking system settings — otherwise the system will default to a more expensive, longer connecting route.
