Air China is China's flag carrier, headquartered in Beijing and a Star Alliance member since December 2007. Its main hub is Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), and its second hub is Chengdu. As of 30 June 2026 the airline had 536 aircraft, and its network covers more than 200 destinations in 54 countries. From Kazakhstan, Air China flies from Almaty to Beijing and Chengdu, and from Astana to Beijing and Xi'an.

  • Baggage allowance

    Flights between China and Kazakhstan use a piece allowance: one or two 23 kg bags in Economy depending on the fare, and two 32 kg bags in Business and First. Economy cabin baggage is one piece up to 5 kg and 55×40×20 cm.

  • Flight check-in

    Online check-in on the Air China website and app is available for flights operated by Air China itself, and its opening time depends on the departure airport. Pregnant passengers, unaccompanied minors and passengers who need special assistance must check in at the airport.

  • Changes and refunds

    Terms depend on the fare. International Economy fares range from Economy Standard to Economy Latitude: Standard tickets are non-refundable and changes cost a fee, Flex allows changes and refunds for a fee, and on Latitude both are free. The exact rules are in the fare conditions.

  • Meals on board

    Instead of the regular meal, you can order one of 17 special meals, such as a child, vegetarian or Muslim meal (MOML) with no pork or alcohol. Requests are accepted at least 24 hours before departure, and 48 hours ahead for kosher meals.

  • PhoenixMiles programme

    PhoenixMiles is the Air China loyalty programme, shared with other airlines of the group such as Shenzhen Airlines. Miles are earned on Air China and Star Alliance partner flights and can be spent on award tickets and goods. The elite tiers are Silver, Gold and Platinum.

  • Mobile app

    The Air China app lets you buy tickets, choose a seat in advance, check in, follow your flight status, rebook a flight yourself, and view your PhoenixMiles account and spend miles. The app is available in Chinese and English.

  • From Kazakhstan, Air China flies nonstop from Almaty to Beijing and Chengdu, and from Astana to Beijing and Xi'an. The Air China network has more than 200 destinations, and from Beijing you can fly on to Seoul and Bangkok, among others. The schedule changes by season, and current flights show up in the Freedom Travel search.

  • Enter the cities, the date and the number of passengers in the search form, pick an Air China flight among the results and pay online. The ticket arrives at the email address you give at checkout.

  • On flights between China and Kazakhstan, baggage is counted by pieces. In Economy you can check one or two 23 kg bags depending on the fare, and two 32 kg bags in Business and First. Economy cabin baggage is one piece up to 5 kg, Business and First allow two pieces of 8 kg, each up to 55×40×20 cm, plus a personal item under the seat. Infants get one 23 kg bag, and a foldable stroller is checked free. The exact allowance is shown on the ticket.

  • You can check in online on the Air China website or app. It is available only on flights operated by Air China itself and not for itineraries that include segments on other airlines. The opening time depends on the departure airport. After check-in you can change your seat, and if your boarding pass fails to print or is lost, an Air China airport desk can reissue it against your ID.

  • It depends on the fare. Air China sells international Economy fares at several levels: Economy Standard is non-refundable and changes cost a fee, Economy Flex allows changes and refunds for a fee, and on Economy Latitude both are free.   • Yes. Besides the regular meal, Air China offers 17 special meals, including child, baby, several vegetarian options, diabetic, gluten-free and low-salt meals. The Muslim meal (MOML) contains no pork or alcohol, and the meat is prepared according to halal rules. Orders are accepted at least 24 hours before departure, or 48 hours for kosher meals. Once a special meal is booked, the regular meal is no longer served.

  • Air China flights from Almaty and Astana arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), Terminal 3. The airline also operates some flights from the city's second airport, Daxing (PKX): for example, flights to Frankfurt have left from there since 28 April 2026. When connecting, check the departure airport on your ticket. Flights from Almaty to Chengdu land at Tianfu (TFU), not Shuangliu (CTU).
